An Internet service usually only available in larger cities has come to Astoria, thanks to a Macomb company. Anyone with a wireless computer can log on when they visit the Slaw Dawgs Diner.

Logonix owner Kim Limkeman already has a number of locations set up for wireless access in Macomb, and has plans to add access in Bushnell in the near future. He said that his company is "looking to bring service to smaller communities where DSL is unavailable or cost prohibitive."

Logonix has been providing wireless service since 2003 and Limkeman boasts that the system has never gone down since it came on-line. "We spent a lot of time and money on equipment," he said.

"The expansion of the DSL program brought Astoria and Bushnell for us," said Limkeman. Anyone with a laptop computer that has wireless technology can come to the diner and have access to the Internet and e-mail.

Logonix has been providing Internet access for the past five years. They offer DSL, wireless, webhosting, e-mail hosting, audio and video streaming, T-1 and DS-3 connections. Limkeman has been a network designer for the past 16 years.

The Slaw Dawg, located just a block south of the highway at 218 W. South Street in AStoria, opened in September. Decorated in a 50's retro style, customers can access their e-mail or the Internet from anywhere in the building. The Slaw Dawg Diner is owned by Jerry and Denis Barnes and are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Limkeman noted that it is a great way to take a customer to lunch and make a sales presentation at the same time. It is also a way for an employee to work online through during lunch.
